Dating in Chennai

Chennai is among the most progressive cities of India. Despite its commercial success, the city is strongly rooted with its traditions. The average Chennai native is regarded as educated and simplistic with an unfussy attitude. Some people might say that dating in Chennai is slightly more challenging as compared to the other metros of the nation. However, this is just because couples are a bit more guarded here, ensuring that they don't offend anybody’s sensibilities. Besides this, Chennai dating doesn’t present any particular challenges. The overall social set-up in Chennai is quite relaxed and accommodating.

Weekends are probably the best time of the week to go out for dates. This is when the young folks in colleges and BPOs come out in hoards. You can also see a lot of expats exploring the city on weekends. This helps you merge along with the happy crowd that consists of many couples.

If you have a slightly big budget, you can catch the weekend brunch at the Marriott. This is where you can catch a table full of delicious food along with some privacy. Along with good breakfast, you can spend some time along the nearby, Ideal Beach.

Shopping locales that offer plenty of dating corners in Chennai include the City Center and Ispahani Center. Other retail-oriented shopping spots include the Spencer Plaza.

Beaches seem like the most popular dating spots in Chennai. There are many couples who come here regularly. Unless, somebody gets too explicit in showing his/her affections, chances of being bothered by cops is minimal. Of course, dating along the beaches of Chennai cannot be complete without visiting the Marina Beach - the world’s second largest beach.

At Marina Beach, the Central Section, located opposite to the Ice House, is regarded as the best dating spot. This is often referred to as the unofficial lover’s zone along the extensive coastline of Chennai. You can also find some empty spots along the coast of the Besant Beach. Couples seem to be rather smart here, seated at a discreet distance from each other, ensuring they can extend and receive privacy.

The Guindy Snake Park attracts school kids on weekdays but is sparsely frequented during the weekends. Any day when there are no school picnics here, is a good day to plan a date here.

Best Dating Places in Chennai on Weekdays

One of the lesser known but very useful Chennai dating spots is the northern end of the Besant Nagar Beach. Located near the Alcott Fisherman Village, this area is somewhat uninhabited on weekdays. Similarly, the southern end of the Elliot’s Beach has a few empty spots that are perfect for dating but there is a police check-post nearby. On weekends, the cops seem to be vigilant but on weekdays, they are often relaxed. So, take your chance but only after checking-out the cop movement.

However, it is better not to try the East Coast Road on weekends or weekdays. This area has seen a number of cases of eave-teasing and most couples tend to avoid this section of the city.

Parks: Unacknowledged among the Best Places to Date in Chennai

Chennai has a number of parks but most of them tend to remain crowded. With fitness being rather popular in the city and expats lazing in parks, finding an empty spot could be difficult. However, couples can get lucky with some research. During most days of the week, the area around the Adyar Banyan Tree (of the Theosophical Society) is virtually uninhabited after the lunch hours. Before the evening staff becomes active, the afternoon hours are ideal for dating. Besides the tranquil setting, the green stretch and beautiful lawns make this a haven for couples who like to date in naturalist settings.

Best Places to Date in Chennai During Early Evenings

The Liberty Theater remains crowded but most people here are eager audiences. Thus, the crowd doesn’t venture around too much and enters/exits the premises without exploring the surrounding space. Couples can use this to their advantage. A nearby park, situated in the UI Colony, i.e. the Anna Circular Walker Park tends to be barely populated once the Theater crowd is seated. This is when chances of being confronted by policemen are negligible.
